Hi there Folks!

Just joined the forum after being in lenghthy email contact with Mark. Also, we met some of your troop at windsor last weekend who gave us quite a warm reception.

Well, there are two of us, the wife and myself, hoping to join you at kelmarsh at the end of this month. My knowledge of this period in history amounts to what I can remember from Monty Python so don't expect too much!  wink I can't speak for the wife (Lucy) cause she'll probably hit me...

We are, in a word, complete novices. I am interested more in the craft side than battles but I could be persuaded to swing a sword once in a while provided there's a cool beer afterwards  grin Lucy likes her crafts too and is quite a devil at the old handstitching!

Well, we're looking forward to meeting you at kelmarsh, any tips on what to bring along would be appreciated seeing this is our first real event!

Hi to both of you, you might remember the "mad gunner"  Shotgun
Handstitiching, very useful, you'll soon be able to have your own soft kit, there is lot's of help here, from "them" more skilled than me! Don't worry over your history knowage, you'll pick it up and youu end up reading lots of books as some part of the subject will get you hooked  Thumbs Up

Hi Stu

Knowledge of Monty Python isn't great on the authenticity front but I have found over the years that being able to quote passages verbatim is a sure way of being able to fit straight into the re-enactment community.....

  Dont listen to him.

It will be good to see you at Kelmarsh.  Its a good indicator that you are enthusiastic about sewing and making kit,  when I  joined I didnt know one end of a needle from the other and was a bit over whelmed at the thought of making  clothes, not just any clothes, but funny old clothes   Smiley

Welcome!

If i have one tip, it is DO NOT SIGN UP TO AOL FOR THE 'FREE' LAPTOP as it takes the cretins over a month to deliver the router/software package Combustion Combustion Combustion Combustion Combustion

Craft side of things is good (speaking as someone who has no craft skills whatsoever) & the history side of things tends to be picked up by osmosis!

Kelmarsh will be a good event for you, lots of things to see & do - plus a somewhat 'catholic' social scene in the beer tent - old hands won't be suprised to see a Roman Centurion drinking with a Fallshirmjaeger!

Thank you all for the warm welcome! Both Lucy and myself are looking forward to the Kelmarsh event, the dog doesn't know about it yet  tongue

We are both quite keen on getting started on our own kit but we hesitate because we want to make sure we have authentic designs before we start. Nothing worse than slaving over a job for hours on end then finding out you can't use it!!  !@#$

I'm looking forward to Kelmarsh, never been before but if it is as good as the old Kirkby Hall event then it will be great! As with other events it's the public that make or break the event. If we have an interesting & interactive camp then we will attract the crowds & have a busy but fun day. If however we don't get the numbers in it will be boring. Lets hope the weather is good & the public come out to see us.

If L & M are in the same position as the last two years then you will be up on a hill with a view of the whole site in front of you.  The only downside is that it is a bit of a walk to the beer tent on a night.

Stu - if no one has mentioned it to you yet, there is a good re-enactors market at this event with lots of chance to buy shoes, material, clothes, pottery or any craft implements you may want.  A good cross-section of the re-enactment traders will be there.

Unfortunately I shan't be there this year but I will miss it as Kelmarsh has always been a good event (as was Stoneleigh and Kirkby before it)

I just hope you're not camped right outside the tent that has the Noel Coward impersonator in it 3 times daily - I shall scream if I ever hear Mad About the Boy again......  Cheesy
