Following on from a discussion on the LH site about wearing liveries when that particular household/unit wasn't present at a particular battle i was thinking about Bosworth. That is really the only battle we do where the Staffords weren't there (at least the main branch -there were the Grafton chaps) & a full Yorkist livery might be too expensive for some, so why not bends? I was thinking of buying a yard of each colour & knocking up some bends for us - although i do fancy a Yorkist livery coat for the field!
This is something we should look into, especially after my rather excrutiating conversation with a lady MOP at bloodywiddle when she asked me what connection the Staffords had with Glyndwr!

I have a murrey and azure bend and a posh azure and murrey coat to wear over armour. As members of L & M are we not supposed to have Yorkist livery?

I believe we are, although asking people tó splash the cash on them may be problematic.
IIRC, we 'should' háve 3 - Bucks, English & Yorkist due to being members of FED/L&M.
Its a cost thing at heart though, how many people want to splurge on a livery that may/will only be used oncé a yéár?

It is only the cost of 2m of wool and some linnen to make a tabbard. If I can manage to sew one together then anyone can. The total price is a couple of beers worth.

Í'm debating with myself as tó whéther i should buy the wool & make the bends or be selfish & make a livery tabard with it instead..... A Livery is smarter, but a bend would allow me to show off my hi-viz jack.....

If someone explains (in one syllable words) what we need I'll get my assistant to make 3 to 4 for us lot (that equates to 8 pints of beer per livery colour...I can be legless in 4...this could get interesting... )

You don't "all" need it Rima, as a gunner you can get away without it, but Bends don't need too much wool, it only needs be around 4 to 8" wide going over your shoulder to oppiste hip so say around 2 to 2 1/2 yard long, one of mind, to make the length, is jointed (Ooo, err missis). As for reason under the FED rules we should have English, I think the reason is to fight the French, as for L&M why only Yorkis (bar) and not having a Lanky, don't know, but if we have Bends to "cover" our own coat, it's a mends of showing which side we're on. As for me having a Standy, well I love the idea of winding up certain old ladies who think Dick 3 was a "god", even if I think (for the time) a good king

When we do Bosworth we portray the Staffords of Grafton - Knights of the Body to Richard III. As those men, we ideally should be in full Yorkist Livery (maybe with a Stafford Knot underneath the Whyte Boar) so a metre/yard of each colour - say Ł5 per metre plus two metres of cheap linen for a liner, say Ł6? Not too expensive really, it's just the skill involved (Vikki says i have to make this myself!)

Speaking as someone who has a yorkist anf English livery, I've hardly used either in gthe last 5 years, L&M are now less bothered about all having yorkist livery.
As fot Lancastarian one, if we are doing early period that the Duke of Buckingham is a big support of Henry VII so no problem there.
